"Does Eye P.A. support 802.11ac?"
Eye P.A. fully supports 802.11ac captures from an 802.11ac capture device. It also supports 802.11ac airtime calculations from an 802.11a/n capture device, since all 802.11ac management overhead is transmitted at 802.11a/n data rates.
802.11ac Captures
Eye P.A. 2.0 or later can capture 802.11ac packets directly using the Linksys WUSB6300 adapter or other adapters from this list.
Or if you take a packet capture with an 802.11ac capture device like a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, Eye P.A. fully supports 802.11ac data rates and airtime calculations.
Recommended 802.11ac Capture Devices:
- 2013 or newer MacBook Air (2x2 spatial streams)
- 2013 or newer MacBook Pro (3x3 spatial streams)
Note: Packet captures will be performed natively in OS X, and moved to a machine or virtual machine running Eye P.A..
802.11a/n Captures
Eye P.A. is able to successfully parse any 802.11n or 802.11ac wireless frames that are present in a packet capture.
If you take a packet capture with an 802.11a/n capture device like a Linksys AE2500 WiFi adapter, or RiverBed AirPcap Nx (which is supported directly in Eye P.A.), you will not receive any wireless frames that are transmitted at 802.11ac data rates.
The Linksys AE2500 or AirPcap Nx will still capture any data frames that are transmitted at 802.11n rates, even if the 802.11n frames originate from an 802.11ac client or access point.
